UNDER ARMOUR HIGHLIGHTS BLUE WAVERS

Several Blue Wave players caught the attention of scouts and posted solid performances in the Under Armour SoCal Classic showcases (OCT 2015) for Upperclass (2016 grads and below) and Underclass (2017 and below) divisions.

Blue Wave Underclassmen Mo Wright (2017 Capo Valley) and Chris Buting (2017 Northwood) both received solid mentions in the UA scouting blog, with Buting also excelling in two of the three testing categories.

Here’s what the Under Armour/Baseball Factory scouts reported:

#5 Malone Wright – 1B/OF
Good power to the gaps, great job using his hands, stays inside the ball well, 2 for 2 with an RBI

#24 Chris Bunting – C/OF
Nice easy load, good rhythm and timing, great bat path and extension through the zone, 2 for 2 with 2 doubles to RCF and LCF, good baseball instincts

Buting tied with three other players for first place in the raw velocity testing, posting 87 MPH. He also earned a spot on the testing leader board with a bat exit speed velocity of 85 mph, with Mo Wright taking second in the category with a top bat exit velocity of 93 mph.

Additionally, Anthony Lopez (2017 Whittier) and Lucas Ciachurski (2017 CDM) made the leader board in the 60-yeard dash, with Lopez posting a 7.15-second time and Ciachurski with a 7.2 second sixty.

A catcher and two pitchers were highlighted from the Blue Wave Upperclass team, with performances from Cristian Lopez (2016 Century) behind the plate and Connor Tousignant (2016 Brea Olinda) and Jacob Guzman (2016 St. Paul) on the mound.

Here’s what the Under Armour/Baseball Factory scouts reported:

#33 Connor Tousignant
Athletic build, loose actions at the plate, direct path, hard line drives, uses all fields, above avg bat speed good actions on in field with sure soft hands

#99 Jacob Guzman – RHP
Tall, big frame with upside has an easy delivery with loose easy arm action at a 3/4 slot fb 85-88 on a downward plane with command to both sides and attacks hitters inside with fb good change up with sink at 77 and 11/5 breaking ball that changes planes well

#37 Christian Lopez – C
Good carry on throws, solid frame, above average actions, strong receiving, soft block at contact, sticks well, moves athletically, 2.16 pop time in game, powerful swing with strength, pop potential, natural lift, good lower half and hand speed, ball jumps

As for Upperclass player testing, Jacob Guzman hit 88 mph velocity on the mound to earn a spot in the top 10 fastball velocities for the Upperclass division and Chris Wahlsteen posted a 7.09 to make the 60-Yard Dash Upperclass division leaderboard.
