Blue Wave’s staff is the perfect mix of great baseball coaches and trainers combined with professional business management and practices.
Blue Wave does not allow parents to coach, administrate, or manage any of its teams at any level, which is typical of many travel teams and club organizations. This steadfast rule has proven to be attractive to players and parents that want a “level field” to play on, as well as coaches that want the freedom to select players and coach their teams as they see fit.
Blue Wave also handles all the administrative chores that most coaches hate to do, team books, paperwork, collecting fees, etc. As a result of Blue Wave’s business model, the majority of coaches for Blue Wave have been with the organization from inception, from 2 to 6 years, and have established successful, local track records than ensure their teams always have more players than they can roster in a given season.

Drafted in the 8th round by the Colorado Rockies in 2003, Darric Merrell played five years in the Rockies organization prior to his release and joining Blue Wave as head coach for the 2008-2009 season. He attend Cal State Fullerton, where he was a standout pitcher under George Horton and Dave Serrano. He was a feshman All-American and runner-up for the 2001 Freshman Of The Year award. During his stint at Cal State Fullerton (2001-2003), he participated in two NCAA College World Series.
